Totally getting my nerd on. I know that the new Star Trek is supposed to appeal to Average Cinema Goer Who Dun’t Like The Trek Wars but I’m a Trek fan and dammit, if I want to flail about the lack of dilithium crystals in the new Enterprise, I will.
Mostly, I’m just looking at sizes, and going, “Wait, the new Enterprise is HOW MUCH larger than the Enterprise-E??”

I’m gonna take a moment out to give massive massive props to my nerdlet girl Hannah for doing the FREAKING IMPOSSIBLE by reviewing 31 books in 31 days in an exercise every one of us here at nerdlet central (adjacent to nerdlet west) thought was crazy awesome. But mostly crazy.
Now we need to get her a trophy or something. I vote for gold-painted egg cup.
31 books in 31 days. Go. Read....

I’ve found my new favourite blog. Not a lot of people know, but I’m a bit of a closet (ahahaha, I see what I did there) costuming geek. If I had any ability to draw or design, I think I might have liked to become a costuming designer, but instead I try to soothe that part of me by loving costume design.
I blame the Star Wars prequels, and their goddamn obsessive way of cataloguing...

I want the big reveal of the Dragon’s Maze story to turn out to have Niv Mizzet at its heart, standing outside a perspex polygon, crying “START THE FANS” and having planeswalkers jumping up and down in tracksuits trying to catch bits of tin foil.

Most awkward get-to-know-your-future-in-laws scenario y/y. I am also amazed no one has written fic except that one person back in the 90’s. ::feeds your plot bunnies::
God damn that person…
That moment when you realise why your site traffic spiked unexpectedly in the month of March. :D

Ok, I read this blog post by the chap who wrote the Imperial Agent storyline, and I got tempted back into playing again, briefly. Reminded me why I really liked the storyline. :D

Conversation I have actually had with some writers on a games mod:
Me: You need a female character.
Writers: Oh yeah, we do. What about x, who’s stuck in an isolated island in the backstory?
Me: How about, to encounter her, she’s leaves out of a desire to see the world, and if you really want that romance, to see if she can’t find that man you mention she’s in love...

why yes, I am marathoning spn, how'd you guess?
It occurs to me that I find angels a weird dose of quasi-scifi in Supernatural’s fantasy setting. At first, it was like “yeah, fantasy creature, true form, things you cannot understand, blah blah” which, y’know, is fine. This is fantasy. I don’t need a breakdown of someone’s DNA code to accept their existence in fantasy. Then they started dropping hints like...

Jerry Wanek tweeted earlier today that there was a certain pattern to Naomi’s windows that nobody had picked up on yet. At first, I thought it was just a visual reference to an old computer punch card, meaning that Naomi was Heaven’s “programmer”, so to speak.
Ok, forget what I said before. I can get “supernatural edit” out of...

Man. I managed to get “supernatural” out of it, but it leaves me with E, N, N, S left over, so...

You know, I wish that game companies (outside of Japan) did things like release books of their game music in sheet music form. For piano.
This is a way of me saying I wish that there was a book full of tracks from Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Halo and all my favourite games, arranged for piano. Ho hum.
And, actually, I wish they’d stock some of those JP-released music books outside of...

Mass Effect 3’s Citadel DLC isn’t for you. And by ‘you’, I mean someone who only saw the games as a bunch of shooter-rpg hybrids that spent entirely too much time dicking around in cutscenes and dumping exposition into a codex that no one ever bothers reading, and couldn’t see what all the fuss was about with the ending.
Mass Effect 3’s Citadel DLC is for you....

So, am I the only one who thinks that the villain of the Citadel DLC should have taken Kai Leng’s role in the main game? With the end result that I would have actually given a shit about that entire plotline?
Because, dang, making me feel sympathy for the Citadel Villain by the end was a masterful bit of writing.

I occasionally love LSE beyond words. Its character generator specifically. I usually only use it to flip through a list of possible names buuut…
I just asked it to generate me a character, and it gave me Brett “Western” Duprey, who’s a witty porn star living in Costa Mesa, whose hobbies include World War II and flowers.
Seriously. LSE. Don’t ever change.

To retrieve a map in an adventure game:
1. Restore power to house
2. Power orrary
3. Observe and record colour changes in planets in orrary
4. Locate outdoor pagoda thing with four columns with tiny planets etched on base in barely visible relief
5. Reveal a spinny thing with different colours on it
6. Rotate until the colour matches the original planet
7. Rotate a coloured crystal until it...
